New Offshore Economy: Extending Value Beyond Production

Hi, this is Mike Edwards. My oil and gas career spans four decades. Beginning as a field landman before various promotions where I worked in acquisitions, legal, government relations, community and public relations, and finally investor relations. Besides many years living and working in Santa Barbara, I spent considerable time on boats in the channel going to and from platforms. I was also very fortunate to join the UCSB Marine Research team in a two-person mini-sub and saw the abundant sea life on and at the bottom of Platform Gale in 740 feet of water.

We approach the repurposing of offshore infrastructure as a collaborative process, working together with owner-operators, leveraging their assets, and adding to their profits. The Tiabzu system design does not interfere with existing and ongoing platform operations. They are cross-supportive, with power supplied by and water supplied to owner/operators. This symbiosis establishes framework for development and regulation before momentum for decommissioning takes over. The alternative use provides transition as productivity declines, and in the case of Tiabzu also alternative energy sources come online, and forestalling decommissioning by replacing operations with water supply when depleted. Transformative as support for a new and sustainable offshore economy.
